At 5:24 p.m. Thursday, January 12, Roseville Police Department and Roseville Fire Department personnel responded to a collision involving a motorcyclist at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Pleasant Grove Boulevard.  The motorcyclist, identified by the Placer County Coroner as Grant Alan Severson, 42, of Roseville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Severson was riding a 1981 Kawasaki motorcycle west on Pleasant Grove Boulevard, and collided in the intersection with a 1998 Mazda pickup that was southbound on Washington Boulevard, driven by a 61-year-old man from Roseville. A 2008 Audi sedan was stopped in the left turn lane of eastbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard, waiting to turn onto northbound Washington Boulevard.  When the collision occurred, the impact caused Mr. Severson to fly off his motorcycle and hit the side of  the Audi.  Paramedics pronounced Mr. Severson dead at the scene.  No one else reported being injured.

The intersection remained closed to traffic until approximately 2 a.m. Friday while the Roseville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) examined the scene.

During the preliminary investigation, independent witnesses were identified,  and they concurred that the motorcyclist ran the red light and collided with the pickup.  There were no signs that alcohol contributed to the collision, but toxicology tests were conducted as a routine procedure in a fatal traffic collision investigation.

Roseville Police Department’s MAIT will conduct a complete and thorough investigation before coming to a final conclusion about the cause of the collision.
