Three people were arrested by Placer County sheriff’s detectives yesterday for possessing and passing counterfeit money in Placer County.
With an upswing in reports related to all denominations of fake money recently being circulated in Auburn, Colfax and other areas of the county, detectives began investigating.
The investigation led to the arrests of:
- Richard Allen Jaramillo, 48, of Lincoln
- Elizabeth Anne Golden, 31
- Kane Andrew Marquardt, 32, both of Auburn.
Jaramillo was booked on charges of making/passing fictitious bills, conspiracy, possession of narcotics, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammo, and committing a felony while out on bail. He is ineligible for bail and remains in custody.
Golden was booked on charges of possessing fictitious bills and was released today on $10,000 bail.
Marquardt was booked on charges of conspiracy and a felony warrant for evading police. His bail is set at $95,000.
Citizens and business owners should check paper money closely. If the bill doesn’t feel like other money, or it tears easily, it could be counterfeit.
According to the United States Secret Service, always look at the money you receive. Compare a suspect note with a genuine note of the same denomination and series, paying attention to the quality of printing and paper characteristics. Look for differences, not similarities.
