Michael Luken approved as new PCTPA Executive Director

Transportation Agency Hires New Executive Director

The Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) Board of Directors unanimously approved a contract with Michael Luken as the first new Executive Director in a generation.

Luken succeeds Celia McAdam, who is retiring after serving more than twenty years as Executive Director.  Under McAdam’s leadership, PCTPA has become known statewide as a “can do” agency that makes every dollar count towards meeting transportation infrastructure needs.   Some of the most high-profile accomplishments include the construction of the SR 65 Lincoln Bypass, the reconstruction of the I-80/Sierra College Boulevard and I-80/Douglas Boulevard Interchanges, expansion of transit options for senior and disabled residents, and the widening of the I-80 Bottleneck through Roseville.  McAdam ends her tenure on a high note, as the construction of the first phase of the I-80/SR 65 Interchange including widening of SR 65 northbound from I-80 to Pleasant Grove Blvd kicks off in May.

Longtime Placer County Resident

A 25 year resident of Placer County, Luken comes to PCTPA from the Yolo County Transportation District where he served as Deputy Director.  His resume also includes work in transportation planning and economic development with the City of West Sacramento, the City of Sacramento, and the County of Yolo, as well as a stint as the Director of the Port of West Sacramento.  “I’m excited about this terrific opportunity to serve in the Placer region where I live.  Transportation is such an integral part of our community’s quality of life and I look forward to continuing to deliver these projects to our community,” said Luken.

The PCTPA Board selected Luken after an extensive statewide recruitment process.  He starts on May 14.

“Mike has some big shoes to fill,” noted PCTPA Chair and Auburn Mayor Bridget Powers, “but we think he’s up to the task and are excited to have him on board.”
