Media Lab Unveiled on Rocklin Campus

Rocklin, Calif. – William Jessup University unveiled their newest enhancement to the 128 acre campus; the Hugh and Hazel Darling Foundation Media Lab. The greater Sacramento region’s only private Christian university hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the modern facility on November 18 at 11 a.m.

The lab is designed to provide an active learning space for students to work on projects or group assignments and reshape the way they collaborate in a connected world.

“The Darling Foundation supports William Jessup University in its efforts to create an environment that promotes its mission of integrating faith and learning,” said Richard L. Stack, Trustee of the southern California based foundation. “There is no greater endeavor than to equip students for a life of both service and leadership in their churches and communities.”

The lab boasts more than 1,000 square feet and features 20 Macintosh computers, a TeamWork media collaboration work station unit, new ergonomic furniture and enhanced printing capabilities. The contemporary and flexible space can be configured for a variety of tasks including group presentations or lectures, small group projects or roundtable discussions.

Recognizing that most colleges are filled with Millennials who are digital natives, Jessup seeks to provide its campus with a more student-centered environment that encourages collaboration and work in groups. Working together is a key concept to success in any career setting because learning is often a social process. Spaces that facilitate these connections can’t be overstated.

“We are always looking at innovative ways to improve the learning spaces and experiences for our students,” said Jessup’s Library Director, Kevin Pischke. “The Darling Foundation Media Lab will enhance student access to a variety of media resources while offering a comfortable space to foster creativity and collaborative educational activities.”
