A 16-year-old Maidu High School student reported that a man assaulted her as she walked to school in north Auburn at 7:30 this morning.

The girl told Placer County Sheriff’s deputies that she was walking on Richardson Drive, in front of Regional Park, when a man in a red 4-door truck asked her if she knew what the time was. When the girl looked down for a cell phone, she said the man grabbed her and threw her against his truck. She said she was able to elbow the man in the stomach, which loosened his grip and enabled her to run away. The man then fled in his truck, she said.

The girl ran the short distance back to her home where her mother called 911.

Deputies saturated the area and issued a bulletin to all area law enforcement agencies. Investigators are currently following up on leads.
The girl described her assailant as white, in his thirties, with a goatee and a muscular build. He was wearing a black, zip-up hooded sweatshirt. At this time, it’s unknown if the suspect’s intent was to rob the girl or to kidnap her.
