Auburn, Calif. – Seniors First has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the James and Virginia Benson Memorial Fund, managed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. After a competitive application process, Seniors First was selected as one of an elite group of recipients who provide meals, transportation and other vital services to seniors in Placer County.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for this significant gift and proud to be a beneficiary of the Benson Fund. We are especially pleased to be recognized by the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation as a vital partner in program delivery to the County’s elderly,” remarked Jamee Horning, Executive Director of Seniors First.
The grant money will immediately be used as a down payment to purchase a new compact van to deliver hot, nutritious meals throughout the area. Meal delivery is a cornerstone of Seniors First’s senior nutrition programs, serving the elderly who, for a variety of reasons, may not otherwise have access to nutritious food and social interaction.
“Coupled with recent funding that will allow us to expand our delivery routes, this new van will give us the means to reliably deliver meals to thousands of hungry seniors from Auburn to Lincoln to Roseville,” added Horning.
