Rocklin, Calif.- Placer County law enforcement officers will be honored for going above and beyond the call of duty at a ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rocklin Sunset Center. The public is encouraged to attend this free event.

This year’s PLEA (Placer Law Enforcement Agencies) Honors and Awards will be bestowed upon officers from each agency in the county for valor, life-saving and distinguished service. Volunteers will also be honored for their thousands of hours of service. The evening’s keynote speaker is Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt. Major Jon R. Cavaiani, U.S. Army (Ret.)

This year, the Placer County Sheriff”s Department will recognize the following: Correctional Officer Ryan Shweid, life saving award for saving an inmate who was choking on food; Sgts. Brian Silva and Brad McKenzie and Deputies Derek Tredinnick and Lakshan DeSilva, Bronze Medal of Valor for saving a man attempting to commit suicide by jumping from the Foresthill Bridge; dispatcher Jenny Schultz, distinguished service award; and Tom Palmer, recognition of volunteer service.

Officers, volunteers and others from Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln and Auburn police departments, as well as those from the California Highway Patrol, Placer County Probation and California State Parks will also be honored.
