Roseville’s HB Fuller was praised by state officials for installing energy efficiency measures that significantly reduced the company’s overall energy use.

California Public Utilities Commissioner Dian Grueneich presented the Energy Efficiency Award to HB Fuller Plant Manager Bill Tholstrup at the 5th Annual Flex Your Power Award ceremony in San Francisco on Saturday, May 5.

‘I applaud HB Fuller’s commitment to reducing its energy consumption. We have a variety of programs and services that can reduce business overhead costs,’ said Roseville Electric Assistant Utility Director Michelle Bertolino. ‘Not only does HB Fuller save money, but they support our goal to reduce energy consumption so we can continue providing low cost, reliable energy and dependable service to all of our customers.’

HB Fuller, a global manufacturer of adhesives and sealants, collaborated with Roseville Electric staff to implement an energy efficiency plan at its 18-year-old facility in Roseville that resulted in a 22 percent reduction in electric energy consumption and a savings of 37,000 therms of natural gas.  Because of the energy efficiency retrofit, HB Fuller will save about $44,000 annually and reduce its CO2 emissions by at least 430,000 pounds.

New measures installed at HB included:

  • Upgrading agitator motor operations
  • Installing VDF’s on cooling tower fans
  • Adjusting the production schedule for efficient gas use
  • ย Upgrading the lighting
  • Planting shade trees
  • Installing web-based metering
  • Developing energy use awareness programs for employees
