Guilty Plea in Roseville Hit and Run Death

A 20-year-old Antelope man who was arrested following the Feb. 4 hit-and-run death of a woman pedestrian on the freeway in Roseville changed his plea today to guilty of three felony charges.

Jeremy Sam Sarguis entered the new plea before Placer County Superior Court Judge Robert P. McElhany, who ordered the defendant to return June 28 for sentencing.

Sarguis, who faces a state prison sentence of five years and four months, pled guilty to two counts of conspiracy and one count of leaving the scene of an accident in which a death occurred.

Killed in the 4:30 a.m. accident on Interstate 80 at Atlantic Street was Vickie Janell Scott, 47, of Grass Valley. She had been seen walking on the freeway earlier that morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Hours after the accident, Sarguis turned himself in to authorities. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment several days later.

The criminal complaint filed by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office alleged that Sarguis conspired with two passengers in his vehicle to fix the damage to the car and also clean the vehicle.

The complaint also alleged that he conspired with the others to agree on a statement containing false information that they would give to law enforcement.

‘They all later went to the California Highway Patrol and provided the false statements,’ the complaint alleged.

Deputy District Attorney Jeff Wilson said the case against the two passengers is under review.
