SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, sent a letter today to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee requesting an audit of the CalWORKs program to determine the effectiveness of its anti-fraud efforts.

‘California needs to stop welfare recipients from spending their benefits out-of-state in resorts and high-end shops,’ said Gaines.ย  ‘The state must conduct a thorough investigation and I will work with my colleagues to craft a common-sense package of reforms to ensure that welfare aid is spent only on legitimate needs.’

On Monday, October 4th , Assemblyman Gaines announced he will introduce legislation to ban welfare money from being used out-of-state, in response to an eye-opening article in the Los Angeles Times that revealed that $69 million was spent or withdrawn outside of California ย– including thousands spent on cruise ships.

ย ย Assemblyman Ted Gaines represents the 4th Assembly District, which includes portions of Placer, El Dorado, Sacramento & Alpine counties.
