Sierra College free academic classes for seniors start 2-27
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides 175 classes for 4000 students annually

ROCKLIN Ð Classes start February 27 at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Sierra College, an academic tuition-free program for older adults. Students interested in stimulating their minds, satisfying their curiosity and socializing with their peers find that the fun classes without homework or tests can enrich their golden years.

New classes offered this semester include: Gold Rush Entertainers, Ethics in Cinema, Beginning Poetry, Tai Chi, the Art of Venice, Contemporary Texas on Film, The Films of Ingmar Bergman, Crop Circle Controversy, and The Life and Music of Gershwin.

Classes are located in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Rocklin, Roseville, Truckee and other locations. OLLI courses are typically held for two hours, once a week, over a four-week period in the morning and afternoon.

Sierra College OLLI is always looking for additional instructors and innovative new course suggestions. The deadline to propose a course for the fall term is March 15.

Classes must support the Sierra College OLLIÕs mission to offer a varied, balanced program that meets the needs and interests of the mature adult population in Placer and Nevada counties. The Sierra College OLLI Curriculum Committee reviews course proposals.

Sierra College is one of only two community colleges nationally to receive a grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation to meet the educational needs of older adults. The other 58 partners are four-year institutions, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Riverside, Arizona State University, Northwestern University, University of Minnesota and Duke University.

The Sierra College OLLI is five years old and offers over 175 classes annually for more than 4000 students. The classes are all tuition-free and noncredit but do require pre-registration.
