Chemicals and materials mixed inside garage

Orangevale, CA- Sheriff’s deputies are working with other agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding a small explosion at a home in Orangevale. The incident occurred just before 6:45 p.m. last night at a residence in the 6400 block of Trajan Drive. An adult male (and resident of the home) who caused the explosion was transported to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Members of the Sheriff’s Explosive Ordnance Detail (EOD) responded to the scene after it was discovered that a variety of chemicals and material were being mixed together inside the garage of the home. Sacramento Metro Fire Department personnel, arson investigators, and bomb technicians from the Federal Bureau of Investigation also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

It is unknown at this time what the intent of the injured man was, with respect to the manipulation of the materials found at the residence. Preliminary investigation suggested that the materials are not illegal to possess, but investigators have concern about the fact that they were clearly being combined in some fashion. At this time, the injured subject is not facing any criminal charges, pending the outcome of further investigation into this incident.
