On November 5, 2013 at approximately 11:46 a.m., Robert Ellowitz, a 63 year old from Sacramento was driving a silver 2004 Volkswagen Beetle on eastbound I-80 just west of Riverside Avenue.
The Beetle was traveling in the #4 lane at approximately 65 mph. For unknown reasons, the vehicle began to veer to the right leaving the roadway and crossing over the eastbound I-80 Riverside Avenue off-ramp lanes. The Volkswagen began to rotate clockwise and the rear end of the vehicle struck a tree.
Ellowitz was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he died. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.
