Republican chooses wrong side of history, calls gay marriage “an affront”

Fourth Congressional District Candidate Doug Ose blasted today’s California State Supreme Court decision to overturn the state’s ban on gay marriage.  Ose opposes gay marriage and was a strong supporter of Proposition 22; the voter approved state ballot measure that defined marriage between a man and a woman.

“Today’s decision not only overturns the will of the vast majority of Californians, but it is an affront to the very values that unite us as Americans.  I am disappointed that a handful of activist judges have decided to play politics with an issue that is so important to families throughout this state.”

Ose encouraged citizens to rally behind the California Marriage Protection Act which would amend the California State Constitution to define marriage between a man and a woman.  “The most effective way for us to combat this egregious decision is to take the power out of the hands of activist judges and amend the California State Constitution.” Earlier this year, Ose joined over a million other Californians in signing a petition necessary to qualify the California Marriage Protection Act for the ballot.

Regardless of his personal views on the subject, Doug Ose believes that this is an issue that should be left to the states, and the federal government should not be in the business of regulating marriage.
