Suspect leaves behind water bottle

Roseville, Calif.- DNA evidence collected from the scene of a May 14, 2010 bank robbery led to the identification and arrest of a suspect this week.

Around noon on May 14, 2010, Roseville Police Department officers responded to a robbery at River City Bank, located inside the Bel Air Supermarket at 1039 Sunrise Avenue.  The robber, a white male wearing a ballcap and a San Francisco Giants jersey, gave the bank clerk a note demanding money, took the cash and left the area.

Roseville’s CSI technicians collected evidence from the scene, including a water bottle that the suspect had left behind.  The technicians sent a sample containing possible DNA to California DOJ’s crime laboratory for analysis. Last week, DOJ technicians notified Roseville PD of a DNA match.

On June 21, Roseville detectives arrested Shawn Todd David Knuckey, 41, at his home in Sacramento on suspicion of robbery.  He is being held in the Placer County Jail in lieu of $85,000 bail.  His booking photo will not be released at this time due to ongoing investigations.
