At 3:17 p.m. on Monday, July 23, the Placer County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Nortech Waste Facility at 3033 Fiddyment Road. A worker at the facility was sorting trash for recyclable items, and discovered the body of a newborn infant, with its umbilical cord still attached, in a plastic bag. It is not known at this time whether or not the infant was full term, or whether it was alive at birth. An autopsy will be conducted.

Other trash items found in the bag connected the case to an address in west Roseville, and it was determined that the birth occurred in Roseville. The investigation was then turned over to the Roseville Police Department.

Roseville Police investigators have located and talked to the infant’s mother, an Oregon woman in her 20s who was visiting friends in Roseville.  No arrests have been made, and the investigation is continuing.
