Children and Adults Missing Off Coast

SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard is searching for two adults and two children, both under the age of eight, who are missing after their 29-foot sailboat started taking on water last night.

The vessel, possibly named Charmblow, was approximately 65 miles off the coast of Pillar Point when they radioed Coast Guard Sector San Francisco at 4:20 p.m. They stated that they were taking on water and the vessel’s electronics were failing. At 5:30 p.m. the vessel operator reported that they were abandoning the vessel, and the Coast Guard lost radio communications with them. The crew may have possibly made it into a make-shift life raft.

Upon receiving the notification from the vessel, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched multiple rescue assets. Assets currently searching include an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco, an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Sacramento, a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Station Monterey, and the Coast Guard Cutter Tern, an 87-foot patrol boat.

Coast Guard crews have conducted several searches of the area with no results. Air and boat crews from the Coast Guard Cutter Alert, a 210-foot cutter, and 129th Rescue Wing, California Air National Guard are slated to join the search.
