AUBURN, Calif. — A fast-moving wildfire burned dozens of homes and scorched of acres Sunday afternoon near Auburn.

The so-called 49er Fire, which destroyed at least 30 homes and about 500 acres, started on Highway 49 at Rock Creek Circle in North Auburn at about 2:20 p.m. It was about 40 percent contained by 7 p.m
