Auburn, Calif.- ย A wildfire that started at approximately 2:19 yesterday afternoon has burned approximately 275 acres in North Auburn. The fire, which is being managed by CAL FIRE, was 50 percent contained as of 8 PM. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped and total containment is not expected until the morning of Tues., Sept. 1, 2009. 60 structures have been destroyed. Highway 49 will likely open on the morning of Monday, Aug. 31.
Currently, evacuations are in place for Dry Creek Road, east of Highway 49 and south of Dry Creek to Windsong Court.
The evacuation of the Saddleback area has been lifted to local residents only and access can only be made through Virginia Street.
The Placer County Sheriffs Office will have additional patrols through the burn area through the evening.
Placer County has declared a state of local emergency and requested that the governor’s office declare a state emergency.
An overnight shelter has been established at Calvary Chapel of Auburn, 202 Dairy Road in Auburn. The Red Cross will manage this shelter.
