Multiple shooting victims

Sacramento, Calif. – On December 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriffs Department deputies responded to the report of a shooting at a barbershop located in a strip mall at 6955 Stockton Boulevard.

When deputies arrived they located five victims who had suffered gunshot wounds. A 30-year-old female was located in her SUV; she had been shot one time in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene. It appeared she had just strapped her young two to three-year-old son into his car seat when she was struck by the gunfire. The child was uninjured. The second victim, a 28-year-old male, was wounded in the shoulder and leg. The third victim, a 27-year-old male, was wounded in the leg. The fourth victim, a 37-year-old male, was shot in the stomach. The fifth victim, a 39-year-old male, suffered a grazing wound to the ankle. The second, third, and fourth victims were transported to various local hospitals and are expected to survive. The fifth victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

As the investigation was unfolding, deputies were notified two additional gunshot wound victims, believed to be connected to the shooting, had been dropped off at two different local hospitals. The sixth victim, a 27-year-old male was shot in the leg. The seventh victim, a 20-year-old male, was shot in the chest. The sixth victim is expected to survive. The seventh victims wound is considered to be life threatening.

Sheriffs Homicide detectives have learned at least one gunman entered the barbershop and began shooting at patrons. At least one patron returned fire. The ensuing gun battle transitioned to the parking lot where detectives believe there were multiple subjects firing multiple weapons. At least two suspects got into a white sedan and drove away from the area. Detectives believe the female victim was an innocent victim caught in the deadly crossfire.  They have not identified a motive for the shooting; nor have they been able to identify who among the shooting victims, beside the female, will be identified as a suspect and who will be considered a victim.

No arrests have been made in the case. The child was placed with Sacramento County Child Protective Services pending identification of, and return to, his family members. The Sacramento County Coroners Office will release the name of the female victim after they notify her next of kin.
