A 30 year old Roseville man was sentenced to prison for 25 years to life for the kidnap and rape of a 24 year old woman by Placer County Judge Marc S. Curry on Friday, May 13, 2011.
The sentencing took place after the defendant plead guilty on March 30, 2011 to kidnapping and rape with a foreign object which he committed in the early morning hours of May 26, 2010. Mitchell stalked the victim and tackled her and dragged her into some bushes after she left a downtown Roseville area bar.
The defendant strangled her into unconsciousness, which prevented her from screaming. After the rape, the victim was able to escape and run to a nearby residence, and call the police. The victim did not know her attacker, but the police found him walking nearby, covered in dirt and scratches, and was arrested.
The defendant, Justin Lee Mitchell, showed no emotion as the victim gave a tearful statement at the hearing, saying, ‘I hope that as you spend the majority of the rest of your life in prison that you reflect on the evil person you are and what you have done. I hope you realize that you ruined someone”s life for no reason whatsoever. Now you can spend the rest of your life paying for it.’ The victim also thanked the Roseville Police Department for catching the defendant that night.
