A Roseville man is facing 30 years and eight months in state prison after pleading guilty Friday to 12 counts of child molestation and one count of making threats to dissuade a victim or witness from testifying.
Guillermo A. Quintanilla, Jr., 27, entered the plea on the day he was scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Placer County Superior Court Judge Larry D. Gaddis to determine if there was enough evidence to go to trial.
Gaddis accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for Aug. 20.
Quintanilla was originally charged with 45 counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14. The crimes were over a four-year period that began in 2005 when the female victim was eight years old.
Two other charges included the threats to the victim and the exhibition of harmful matter to a child.
Had he been convicted on all 47 counts, Quintanilla was facing 271 years and four months in state prison, according to prosecutor Jeff Wood of the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
Wood said the defendant’s guilty plea has spared the 12-year-old girl from a trial and having to testify under cross examination about details of the molestation incidents.
‘With the plea, she will not be further traumatized by the defendant,’ Wood said. ‘She will not have to testify to the unspeakable things he did to her. She can be done with him.’
