Roseville Company Awarded for Homeless Shelter Renovation

Roseville, Calif.- USA Properties Fund Inc. has received 2015 Builder of Hope awards for its contributions and efforts for the expansion and renovation of the Next Move Family Shelter Campus, a much-needed emergency homeless shelter for families in the Sacramento region.

USA Properties Fund, a developer-owner-manager of apartment communities in California and Nevada, was recently honored with the Builder of Hope-Builder Captain award for its leadership and support of HomeAid Sacramento’s mission to help displaced parents and their children. HomeAid coordinated builders and the grant funding for the Next Move shelter.

The Next Move shelter in the Oak Park neighborhood reopened this summer after an extensive renovation that added 30 beds, three classrooms, a commercial kitchen, dining room, computer lab, and new space for the on-site Head Start program.

Michael McCleery, Senior Vice President for USA Properties, oversaw the project and accepted the Builder Captain award. Josh Rhinehart, a superintendent for the company, received the Builder of Hope award for his expertise and day-to-day management of the $2.8 million project.

USA Properties donated $550,000 of in-kind labor and materials through its valued trade partners for the high-profile project.

“We’re very proud to play an important role that helped so many struggling families during such a difficult period,” McCleery said. “Our company and partners are all about building meaningful communities, and this project truly fits our mission.”

The Next Move Family Shelter initially opened on Parker Avenue in 1974 and provided emergency housing for 25 people in six rooms. In 1986, the shelter expanded and more than doubled the number of rooms and could provide shelter to 55 people every night.

The recent expansion and renovation allowed Next Move to add 30 beds-and can now house 85 people nightly.

“We deeply appreciate USA Properties and its partners’ commitment, dedication and investment to help families by providing the shelter they need and the opportunity to stay together,” said Carolyn Brodt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Next Move Sacramento. “The shelter offers a refuge and hope for parents and their children so they do not have to sleep in their car or on the street.”

HomeAid Sacramento is celebrating its 20th anniversary of building housing for the homeless in the region. HomeAid is the charity of choice for the North State Building Industry Association. USA Properties is a North State BIA member.
