Grateful Dead 50 Year Celebration at Chicago’s Soldier Field

The final Grateful Dead celebration with four of the original members will take place this summer at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Titled “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead” the former members have booked 3 nights, July 3rd, 4th and 5th at the iconic stadium where approximately 200,000 fans will flock from around the world to celebrate what most music fans consider the greatest jam band in history and throwback to the era of peace and love.

Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir  will reunite at Chicago’s Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue.

Although the band name was effectively retired with passing of legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia in 1995, surviving members carried on the musical legacy over the years from another time, forgotten space.

The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (Guitar), Jeff Chimenti (Keyboards) and Bruce Hornsby (Piano), and will perform two sets of music each night.

Deadheads from around the country will soon be packing their tie-dyes and gearing up for another memorable road trip and one last dance down Shakedown Street to hear the music that only seems to get better with age.

For those that can’t make the trip to Chicago, Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael and Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley offer up an opportunity to still catch Phil Lesh and Bob Weir weave their magic in a small intimate setting with fellow deadheads and an incredible and rotating group of assorted musicians who are carrying the torch and spirit that all began in the Bay Area circa 1965.
