Auburn, Calif.- The Placer County Board of Supervisors recently announced that David Boesch has been appointed as County Executive Officer to carry on the traditions of outstanding customer service, innovation and fiscal responsibility.
Boesch most recently served as County Manager in San Mateo County, and succeeds Tom Miller who retired in February. Boesch will begin his duties on June 18, 2012.
“The Board is excited to have David join this organization at a particularly important and challenging time for local governments everywhere,” said Board Chairwoman Jennifer Montgomery. “We look forward to David’s leadership in working with the Board, County staff and our community partners as we preserve what’s best about Placer County and position ourselves for a prosperous future.”
Boesch stated that he is committed to high-quality, cost-effective services, long-range financial management and fostering collaboration across sectors.
“Placer County has a well-established reputation as one of the top municipalities in the Western U.S. I am honored to have been chosen for this extraordinary career opportunity and to serve a community that has such strong traditions as well as unmatched potential,” Boesch said. “But there is no question that we face some very challenging near-term economic realities. This will serve to give us focus and added impetus to more fully engage our residents, companies and partners in new and creative ways to build on our shared vision and common values.”
Background
Boesch grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C., with a strong belief that effective governance can positively impact the lives of people. He attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Urban Planning. He worked as a planner in Utah and in 1986 attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, earning a master’s in public administration. He then worked in community and economic development in New Hampshire and Sunnyvale, California, before becoming the city manager in Menlo Park. He was subsequently hired by San Mateo County as its Assistant County Manager and served in that role for less than two years before being selected to succeed John Maltbie upon his retirement as County Manager, a position he then held for nearly three years.
“David possesses all the personal qualities and professional qualifications the Board sought in our next CEO. He inherits a staff that is dedicated to the highest standards of public service. During this time of transition, our Board wishes to extend its genuine appreciation to all County staff; and, especially, to Holly Heinzen who has served the County exceedingly well over the past months as our Interim CEO,” stated Board Chairwoman Montgomery.
Boesch and his wife of nearly thirty years, Carrie, will be relocating immediately and are excited about purchasing a residence in Placer County. Their son, Alexander, attends CSU Chico and the family enjoys spending quality time together in Tahoe City with a variety of outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking and winter sports.
Boesch’s starting salary will be $215,384 and he will receive management benefits provided other County department heads.
