Thanks to last week’s snowfall and the cold temperatures that have followed in Lake Tahoe, three resorts have pushed up their opening date this week.
Vail Resorts properties – Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood – are opening for skiing and snowboarding today.
“No need to bring your ‘rock skis’ to our resorts,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “Our resorts have a reputation for opening with quality in addition to quantity.”
Heavenly and Northstar will open Wednesday, with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres.
On Friday (Nov. 16), both Squaw Valley and Kirkwood will open for the season. Sugar Bowl ski resort also pushed up its opening date and will be welcoming skiers and riders on Saturday. Mt. Rose is scheduled to open the day before Thanksgiving – Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Boreal ski resort reopened last Saturday and Mammoth Mountain in Eastern California opened two days earlier.
