Roseville, Calif. – At 10:54 p.m. Sunday night, August 13, Roseville Police and Fire personnel responded to a reported shooting inside a home on Magpie Court, in west Roseville.
Upon their arrival, police and fire personnel found a 40-year-old male victim down with a gunshot wound in his neck. He was transported by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The suspect, Melvin H. Hunter, 86, was being detained by neighbors when officers arrived. Officers arrested him without further incident. A handgun was recovered in the residence.
The victim and the victim’s family live with the suspect, whom they described as a family friend, in the house on Magpie Court. The suspect and victim were heard arguing before the shooting occurred.
Hunter is currently being held without bail in the Placer County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. He is scheduled for arraignment in Department 13 at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15.
The incident is under further investigation by the Roseville Police Department Investigations Division.
