Auburn, Calif.- The Placer County Board of Supervisors will consider adopting a $792.5 million proposed budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year during a meeting in Auburn Tuesday.
The proposed budget would serve as an interim spending plan when the new fiscal year begins on July 1. The board is scheduled to adopt a final budget in September. The two-phase budget process allows the county to incorporate updated revenue and expenditure estimates in the final budget.
The proposed 2014-15 budget is approximately $71.6 million, or 9.9 percent, higher than the final budget for 2013-14.
“The economy continues to modestly improve in the wake of the Great Recession,” explains Deputy County Executive Officer Andy Heath in a report to the board, noting that property tax revenue continues to increase as property values recover. “Due to the continued steady hand of the Board and the ongoing commitment of departments to deliver the most cost-effective services, Placer County is favorably positioned relative to the modestly improving economy.”
Tuesday’s budget discussion will provide departments an opportunity to update board members on their programs and priorities.
During the meeting, the board will be asked to:
- Earmark unspent funds that will be carried over from the 2013-14 budget to the new fiscal year for three purposes: increasing county General Fund reserves, helping fund high-priority infrastructure projects, and funding other priorities identified by the board;
- Adopt the proposed budget;
- Provide direction for staff to consider as it prepares the final 2014-15 budget; and
- Accept a comprehensive multi-year capital plan and finance summary.
The 2014-15 proposed budget is scheduled for discussion beginning at 9:45 a.m.
