The Placer County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Rancho Cordova man Monday afternoon for arson following Sunday’s fire in Elverta.

The fire started in Placer County and was wind-swept into Sacramento County. One structure, two outbuildings and 420 acres burned.

Two independent eye witnesses placed the suspect, David Petrashishen, 25, at the origination of the fire and gave a detailed description to fire personnel on scene.  A deputy saw Petrashishen walking out of the fire area, and matched the exact description and detained him.  Petrashishen was carrying a lighter and book of matches, along with a pack of cigarettes. During the interview at the jail, Petrashishen made numerous admissions.

Sacramento County Metro Fire and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a joint investigation. The suspect is being held at the Placer County Jail on arson charges.
