St. Patrick’s Day Parade marching into Old Sacramento March 17
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – The 22nd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade marches into Old Sacramento on Saturday, March 17, with a variety of free fun and excitement for the entire family.
“Over the last two decades, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade has quickly grown into one of Sacramento’s most anticipated festivals,” said Brooksie Hughes, Old Sacramento District Director of Downtown Sacramento Partnership. “Expect a day full of activity and fun. Plan to arrive early, grab a great viewing spot and enjoy the best Irish celebration in town. And, don’t forget to wear green!”
Attracting thousands of spectators for a one-of-a-kind celebration of all things Irish, the parade is designed to celebrate the diversity and richness of the community. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the St. Patrick’s Day Vendor Village featuring 15 local businesses and organizations. Entertainment will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Kennelly School of Irish Dance, Sacramento Sirens Cheer Elite, BTU Arts and McKeever School of Irish Dance, followed by the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, stepping off promptly at 1 p.m. at Front and L streets in Old Sacramento.
Led by the city’s Irish society, the Sacramento Shamrock Club, with local news personality Mark S. Allen serving as Grand Marshal, the parade featuring more than 50 entries is expected to host more than 1,000 marchers. Highlights will include Irish dancers, Scottish-American Military Society & Bag Pipers, costumed marchers, rodeo performers, marching bands, various cultural organizations and local elected officials, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty and Sacramento County Supervisor Patrick Kennedy. Emceed by radio personality Amanda McGraw of 92.5 The Bull, the parade route will head north on Front Street, winding through Old Sacramento before finishing at Front Street and Neasham Circle.
Following the parade, stick around for the best Irish celebration in town with a special performance by The Mighty Murphys. Incorporating extensive musical experience from various genres, the band sparkles with upbeat Irish reels, jigs, slip jigs and heart-felt ballads of the old country.
Get a head start on the St. Patrick’s Day festivities at the St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl in Old Sacramento on Friday, March 16. Beginning at 8 p.m., revelers can catch the Irish spirit at participating bars: O’Mallys Irish Pub, River City Saloon, The Other Office, SacTown Sports Bar, Fanny Ann’s Saloon, Sports Corner Café, Vega’s Underground, SKY Lounge and Knobs-n-Knockers.
