Loomis, Calif.- A Placer County Sheriff’s K-9 sniffed out a large cache of marijuana in the truck of a Calistoga man who was passing through Loomis Tuesday night.
At around 10 p.m., Thomas Franklin Williams, 51, was stopped by a deputy on Interstate 80, near Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis, for a vehicle code violation. Williams was found to be driving on a suspended license.
During a search of Williams’ truck, K-9 Okar immediately alerted on the Chevy truck. In the truck bed, within the camper shell, deputies found seven large boxes filled with processed and packaged marijuana, which totaled approximately 175 pounds. Inside the cab, Williams also had a loaded .44-caliber Ruger Redhawk handgun, with a 10-inch barrel.
Williams was booked at the Placer County Jail on felony charges, including: transportation, sales and possession of marijuana; carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony; and carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in a vehicle.
His bail was set at $60,000. He was arraigned Wednesday and remains in custody.
