Inaugural Destination-Wide Culinary Event

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. – As part of California’s Restaurant Month, Carmel-by-the-Sea will host the first annual Carmel-by-the-Sea Culinary Week, Jan. 19-26, 2020. As the first destination-wide event of its kind, the village will showcase the distinct culinary evolution taking place with its numerous new restaurants, renowned chefs, and recent accolades from the California Michelin Guide.
Carmel-by-the-Sea’s culinary renaissance is fueled by its large selection of eclectic restaurants all located in a small, walkable, and eminently charming one-square-mile village. Carmel Culinary Week’s “Art of the Plate” theme pays homage to the artistic heritage of Carmel-by-the-Sea, and how that free spirit has now found its way into the current restaurant scene.
With 65 restaurants, bistros, coffeehouses, bakeries, and pubs, visitors can taste international and regional flavors, all while enjoying fresh produce grown locally in Salinas Valley, the catch of the day from Monterey Bay, and award-winning pours from Monterey County vineyards. Carmel-by-the-Sea’s Aubergine restaurant was awarded a coveted 1-star rating earlier this year in Michelin’s first-ever State Dining Guide to California. Seven additional Carmel-by-the-Sea eateries also received Michelin Guide recognition.
Carmel-by-the-Sea Culinary Week offers an impressive lineup of restaurants offering special prix fixe menus, complimentary treats and tastes, and intimate and immersive culinary demonstrations.
The special prix fixe menu selections allow guests to savor multi course menus, with most restaurants offering three or four courses from $20 to $65, often with wine pairing options and other free tastes. Special intimate and immersive demonstrations and events are scheduled throughout the week at participating restaurants as well as at Carmel’s new Sur La Table demo kitchen. Event examples include Exploring Tequila & Mezcal Culture, All About Oysters, Flowers in My Salad: Inspirational Food & Art Experience, gnocchi making classes, dim sum brunch, coffee workshops, and more.

Visitors can access their free Carmel Culinary Week Passport at CarmelCulinaryWeek.com to “check in” and receive complimentary offerings, view prix fixe menus, as well as register for special events and purchase tickets. Each “check in” using the Carmel Culinary Week Passport is an entry to win a future trip for two to Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Easily access and book a lodging reservation at one of the village’s quaint inns via the “Book Direct” feature on the Visit Carmel website. Travelers may conveniently book reservations at a special rate directly with the village’s innkeepers, and be within walking distance to the bounty of Carmel-by-the-Sea Culinary Week.
